NFL will play two games on Christmas Day, which falls on a Wednesday

The NFL had said in the past that it would not schedule games on Christmas Day when the holiday fell on a Tuesday or Wednesday. But it appears that after the enormous success of this past Christmas’ slate of games, which fell on a Monday, that the league has altered course.

The three games that were played this previous Christmas Day during the 2023 season average 29.1 million viewers, which considering that the NFL was up against competition from the NBA which has a Christmas Day tradition of playing multiple basketball games on the Christmas, the league had to feel pretty good about that.

The NFL stated that this season they will schedule four teams to play on Christmas Day, though they did not state which times the games would slate into.

Last season the league scheduled a 1:00 PM games which featured the Raiders vs. Chiefs, a 4:30 PM game between Giants and the Eagles and finally a 8:15 PM game between the Ravens and the 49ers.

It is expected that the four teams chosen to platy on Christmas Day will be scheduled to play the previous Saturday, which would make it the equivalent of teams playing a Thursday game on a typical short week after playing the previous Sunday.
