According to Ian Rapport from NFL Network, the Buffalo Bills are set to trade star wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans for a second round pick in 2025.
The Bills are also reportedly sending their sixth round pick in this years draft, as well as the fifth round pick in next years draft.
It is expected that by trading Diggs now, before the June 1st deadline, that the Bills will incur $31 million in dead cap space.
Diggs was traded to the Bills from the Minnesota Vikings in 2020. He led the league with 127 receptions and 1,535 yards in his first season in Buffalo. Diggs arrival seemed to coincide with the rapid development of Bills quarterback Josh Allen and ever since the trade the Bills have been strong betting favorites to reach the Super Bowl.
But the last two seasons have resulted in early playoff exits for the Bills and last season Diggs saw a sharp decline in his production in the later part of the season, particularly after the Bills made a change at the offensive coordinator position by firing Ken Dorsey and promoting Joe Brady to the role. Brady had been Allen’s quarterback coach and it seemed that the team was looking to go in a different direction in terms of offensive scheming.
Diggs seemed to voice his displeasure with the direction that the offense was moving in several times last season.
With this move and the departure of wide receiver Gabe Davis, the Bills will now likely be looking to replenish their wide receiver stock in the upcoming NFL Draft.
Buffalo currently owns the 28th overall pick in this year’s draft. The draft begins on April 25th from Detroit, Michigan.
