Bears send Justin Fields to the Steelers for late round draft picks

By | Published | No Comments

The Chicago Bears are sending quarterback Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a 2025 sixth round draft pick, thus ending Fields three year tenure in Chicago and all but guaranteeing that the Bears will be selecting a quarterback with the number one draft pick in next April’s draft.

The Steelers have been busy the last week shipping in and shipping out quarterbacks. This past Wednesday the Steelers acquired Russell Wilson from the Denver Broncos and this past Friday they traded away their former 2022 first round draft pick Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Fields is expected to compete with Wilson for the starting job next season.

It’s possible that the Bears could have gotten more for Fields after the draft, but the fact that they acted now shows that the market has softened significantly in regards to Fields.

Fields had his best season as a pro last year, at least in the passing game. Fields completed just over 61% of his throws, for 2,562 yards, 16 touchdowns and just 9 interceptions.

There was some feeling that the Bears could get a day one or at the very least a day two pick from Fields. But with the large number of quarterbacks entering free agency and the number of promising prospects expected to come out of the draft, the market quickly soured on Fields.

With the exit of Fields, the Bears have Tyson Bagent and Brett Rypien as the only two quarterbacks on their roster at the moment.
