The Atlanta Falcons are moving on from Desmond Ridder after just two seasons. Ridder who was selected in the third round by the Falcons in the 2022 draft was never able to lock down the starting job in the post Matt Ryan era.
Ridder now hopes that a fresh start in Arizona will help him bounce back.
In two seasons with Atlanta, Ridder completed 64% of his passes, for 3,544 yards, 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
Ridder started just four games his rookie season, going 2-2 at the end of the season. The Falcons had high hopes that surrounding Ridder with plenty of offensive weapons in his second year would help him breakout and help get the Falcons to the playoffs. Instead, Ridder struggled with his accuracy and turnovers became an issue.
Ridder was benched several times last season in favor of Taylor Heinicke. But neither Ridder or Heinicke were able to find much success down the stretch for Atlanta.
It is expected that Ridder will become the backup quarterback next season for the Kyler Murray. Meanwhile, the Falcons will turn to veteran starting quarterback Kirk Cousins this upcoming season.
