NFL sets salary cap at $255.4 million for 2024 season

By | Published | No Comments

The NFL has released the 2024 salary cap for all teams and there is a nice surprise. All teams will have an extra $30 million in their hard cap to spend on player salaries.

The increase from $224.8 in 2023 is the largest single year increase in the cap’s history.

In a statement issued by the league, the NFL explained that the additional $30 million was due to the full repayment of moneys that were deferred during the covid/pandemic season in the NFL, as well as the extraordinary growth that the league has seen since the pandemic.

“The unprecedented $30 million increase per club in this year’s salary cap is the result of the full repayment of all amounts advanced by clubs and deferred by the players during the Covid pandemic as well as an extraordinary increase in media revenue for the 2024 season,”

NFL free agency period will open on Wednesday, March 13th, which is just a bit more than a couple of weeks away.

With this large of an increase in salary cap, many teams may end up being able to rework their initial free agency plans and perhaps retain an additional player or two.
