Aaron Rodgers not likely to play as Jets are no longer in playoff contention

By | Published | No Comments

The New York Jets activated quarterback Aaron Rodgers this week and have added Rodgers to their 53 man roster. Rodgers has completed a rather remarkable recovery from what was thought to be a season ending ACL tear back in week one. Rodgers had reported, last month, that his recovery was ahead of schedule, and that he had hoped to get back on the field before the season ended.

Rodgers has been on the practice field in recent weeks, as the Jets opened Rodgers 21-day practice window last month. While Rodgers has been practicing during that window, he has not taken any first team reps, and has mostly been going through a more simulated practice session.

While Rodgers had expressed a desire to return to the field before the season ended, the Jets confirmed that he will not play again this season, but will continue to practice with the team.

The Jets list four quarterbacks on their official team depth chart, including Rodgers, Zach Wilson, Trevor Siemian and Brett Rypien.

Wilson was removed from last Sunday’s loss against the Dolphins after showing symptoms of a concussion. He was replaced by Siemian. Wilson remains in the protocol and has not yet been cleared to play in Sunday’s game against the Commanders.

It is expected that Siemian will start this week for the Jets, though the team has yet to make an official announcement.
