As the Patriots plan to jettison quarterback Mac Jones on Wednesday, the first offical day of the start of free agency, they also plan to bring back a former quarterback in Jacoby Brissett.
New England is expected to sign Brissett to an $8 million one-year contract. Brissett was a third round draft pick by the Pats in 2016 and joined fellow quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo backing up starting QB Tom Brady.
Brissett started two games for the Pats in 2016, his rookie season, before eventually being dealt to the Indianapolis Colts. Brissett has bounced around to three additional teams since his departure from the Colts in 2020, including the Dolphins, Browns and the Commanders.
Brissett joins Bailey Zappe and Nathan Rourke as the Patriots only three rostered quarterbacks.
